The Ulster: US$99
When I returned home to Ireland I found a gypsy from County Down had set up camp across the way from the home place.

He was pulling old cart wheels to pieces but the only pieces he seemed interested in were the spokes.  When I asked him what he was going to do with these he said "make ladders" and he showed me a ladder he was making using the old oak spokes for rungs.  I told him he should be pulling ladders apart to make wheel spokes but he didn't agree with this at all.

Charlie turned out to be a gentleman and a friend.  He was great with his hands and over the years showed me many different crafts.  He also had a great eye for beauty and it was for him that I first made 'The Ulster'.
