Made in Ireland. 9" shamrock rosary with Celtic Cross arrives on card with the Story of the Irish Rosary and Method of Saying. The Irish Shamrock emblem is impressed upon each oval ceramic bead of this Single Decade Rosary. The Celtic Cross is made of plate metal and measures approximately 1" x 1¾". Very beautiful and unusual shamrock single-decade rosaries...used in penal times in Ireland, this set of beads was used as a substitute for the full length Rosary beads, in order to avoid detection by oppressors whilst in prayer. An Paidrin Beag, dates from the early 18th century. It is generally referred to as the Single-Decade or Penal rosary because of its association with the Penal Laws of the day.
